In the early 80’s “sustainability” was not the ubiquitous buzz-word it has now become. But the Disraeli’s, who approached the business of fish with a rigorous scientific perspective, understood early on that development, support, and promotion of sustainable, environmentally sound fishing practices were necessary to reverse the dangerous depletion of world fish stocks, and to begin to end fishing methods and practices that destroy the ecosystems in which they are employed. They realized that in order to prevent the eventual collapse of the global fishing industry, global cooperation was ultimately required. From the beginning they were committed not only to doing their part to preserve our oceans and their bounty, but to educate and evangelize on the vital necessity of continuous effort toward a scientifically supportable, truly sustainable, global fishing industry.
